숨은 명곡 빌리조엘의 "Two Thousand Years" 감상평

빌리조엘...

어렸을 때 티비에서 우연히

피아노맨이라는 노래를

듣게 된 후로 지금도

가끔 찾아 듣는 몇 안 되는

좋아하는 팝가수입니다.

 

빌리조엘은 미국 출신의

싱어송라이터 겸 피아니스트입니다.

1949년생인 빌리조엘은

피아노를 기반으로 작곡을

많이 했는데 그래서 빌리조엘의

노래는 피아노 연주가 유독 많습니다.

 

빌리조엘의 곡은 서사적이고

애환을 담은 노래들이 많은데

앨범 판매량이 누적 1억 장 이상

팔렸다고 하니 빌리조엘의 가사와

멜로디가 대중에게 많은 감동과

공감을 얻었다는 것은

부정할 수 없을 것 같습니다.

 

 

 

 

빌리조엘의 유년기는 그리

순탄하지만은 안았는데

8살 때 부모님이 이혼을 했고

십 대에는 아마추어 복서로 활동을 하다가

심한 코 부상을 당하기도 했습니다.

 

빌리조얼은

어머니의 영향으로 어렸을 때부터

피아노를 배우게 되었고 그 영향으로

여러 클럽에서 피아노 연주를 했지만

고등학교를 자퇴하게 되고 본격적으로

음악의 길로 접어들게 됩니다.

 

 

빌리조얼은 1970~1980년대에

전성기를 맞게 되는데, 정규 5집

'The Stranger'가 빌보드 상위권에

오르고 천만 장의 판매량을

달성하기도 했었습니다.

 

 

빌리조엘은 1980년대 이후

미국 뮤지션으로서는 최초로

소련 시절 러시아에서

순회공연을 하게 되고

러시아 공연은 라이브 앨범으로도

발매가 되었다고 합니다.

그 이후 많은 싱글 앨범을 발매하며

활동을 이어 가던 빌리조엘은

"We Didn't Start The Fire"로

3번째 빌보드 차트 1위 곡의

주인공이 되기도 했었습니다.

 

빌리조엘의 노래는

감성적인 멜로디와 애환을 담은
